Hip Cross Carry for Woven Wraps

Hip Cross Carry in a Woven Wrap

On this page:

  • VIDEO: Hip Cross Carry with a Big Kid
  • VIDEO: Nursing Hip Cross Carry with a Newborn in a Cradle Position
  • PHOTO TUTORIAL: Instructions for tying this carry using a woven wrap

Though my model is a big kid, this carry works beautifully with any baby in
an upright position.  These instructions are for use with a woven wrap, not a stretchy wrap.

Hip Cross Carry Step 1 Hip Cross Carry, Step 2
Place the middle of your wrap over one shoulder. Bring both sides of the wrap around to cross at your opposite hip.
Hip Cross Carry, Step 3 Hip Cross Carry, Step 4
Bring both sides of the wrap around your waist to the opposite hip. Tie at right hip, or wrap around again to tie at left hip.
Hip Cross Carry, Step 5 Hip Cross Carry, Step 6
Lift your baby or child up to your shoulder, and lower her left leg into the strap on your right. Now lower your child's right leg into the strap on your left.
Hip Cross Carry, Step 7 Hip Cross Carry, Step 8
Spread the inner strap out to form a seat under your child's bottom. Continue spreading all the way from her right knee to left knee and up her back.
Hip Cross Carry, Step 9
Hip Cross Carry, Step 10
Spread the outer strap likewise from knee to knee, under baby and up her back. Crosses should make a seat underneath her with her knees held up.

Hip Cross Carry, arms in

The crosses can be further spread to cover
her arms and shoulders for better cuddling.
